The competitive nature of African trade today requires that all aspects of the business be managed proactively and effectivelly. This includes mobile resources, the vehicles that play an integral part in delivering products and services to the customers. Sion recognizes this, in addition to the third party logistics risk that are significant in the trading business in Africa, and accordingly have developed Sion Logistics to be a solution to that risk for Sion Trading and other trading players on the continent.
Three key elements of our logistics solutions include:
Effective communication systems : Sion Logistics's communication system is directed from an on ground source as well as a remote tracking source. Information is fed through to the head office by computerized tracking systems and telephone, and mobile telecommunication sources from business associates and offices located along the route.
Physical monitoring of goods while in transit, as part of the operations strategy Sion maintains staff compliment in Zambia and DRC that physically checks on the movement of in transit petroleum tankers RTC's and various merchandises.
Theft reduction methods: In order to avoid pilferage of product, Sion has devised a system of locking tankers and containers, in addition to applying the seals which are customary on all long distance tanks provided by Sion. When requested to do so, Sion engage Intertek-Testing Services ( ITS ) to provide additional locks. South African freight forwarders PDM have also devised a unique system of sealing the tankers, which they employ on all Sion's rolling stock.
Sion Logistics is well positioned to facilitate trade in and out of the DRC. As the business grows, the company will look to expand into logistics infrastructure development opportunity.
To compliment Sion Trading's unique position in the fuel and products supply trade, Sion provides logistics services by both road and rail through Sion Logistics. With its current road tankers fleet and rail cars provided by Transnet South Africa.
